Screen Time to Green Time: Reconnecting Children with Nature

The Nature Deficit and Mental Wellbeing Children’s mental health is at a critical inflection point, with escalating reports of anxiety, stress, and social isolation. Research consistently demonstrates that exposure to natural environments is a fundamental component of emotional regulation and cognitive development. Time spent in green spaces is clinically proven to lower cortisol levels, reduce psychological stress markers, and improve the focus necessary for educational attainment.
Despite 90% of people acknowledging that nature improves their wellbeing, modern children are increasingly disconnected from the outdoors. This spatial inequity is severe: 31% of children under the age of nine lack access to a nearby playground, exacerbating health and wellbeing inequalities.
Digital Engagement as a Preventative Tool To influence behavioural change, we must bridge the gap between digital interest and physical environment engagement. Love Exploring does exactly this. By overlaying rich digital storytelling such as Winter Wildlife Adventures and nature quizzes onto local green spaces, we create "sticky" digital experiences that keep families coming back.
The data proves the efficacy of this approach: our platform maintains a staggering 78% retention rate between school holidays, and 36% of users return to play again within just seven days. During one of our Halloween Dance trails, participants had so much fun they were dancing in the rain, collectively walking the equivalent of "once round the world".
Driving Massive Community Engagement: Sandwell Council When Sandwell Council launched our Dinosaur Safari in November 2020, they recorded over 2,000 active players in just the first fortnight. This is a testament to the platform's incredible appeal, proving that families will flock to their local parks—even during traditional "off-peak" winter seasons—when provided with compelling, interactive reasons to do so.
