Most people think hippos are amazing swimmers, but we actually can't swim very well. Instead, we bounce and push ourselves along the riverbed using our powerful legs. When the African sun gets too hot, I spend hours cooling off in the water. My eyes, ears and nostrils sit right on top of my head, so I can stay mostly underwater while still keeping an eye on everything around me.

Why We've Chosen 'Hausa' Names For Our Animals
All of our safari animal characters have names inspired by Hausa, one of Africa's most widely spoken and culturally significant languages. While Western media often use Swahili when naming African animal characters (such as in The Lion King), we chose Hausa to celebrate the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of West and Central Africa. Spoken by millions of people across countries including Nigeria, Niger, Ghana, Cameroon, and Chad, Hausa is used in everyday life, storytelling, music, trade, education, radio, and television. With its rich history, vibrant culture, and strong oral storytelling traditions, Hausa is the perfect inspiration for bringing our African Safari adventure to life.
